RAPID CYCLING AFFECTIVE DISRODER

Abstract
|
|
|
The clinical characteristics and treatment of rapid cycling affective disorder attract much attention to psychiatrists.
Rapid cycling has not been rarely reported in affective disorder patients and is clinically important in that it has high suicidal rates and is resistant to lithium treatment.
Rapid cycling is defined as the occurence of four or more episodes of affective illness per year, regardless of polarity or as involving either mixed affective states or frequent mood fluctuations without discrete intermorbid periods or as involving 24or 48hour cycles of affective disturbance.
We have experienced a case of rapid cycling affective disorder in female which was pvevionsly diagnosed as major depression and treated with antideressnant, and report it with literature
